SMALL GRANTS STORIES : SG Emballage

COVID-19 Response / Articles / 05-07-2022

"My father has worked in the packaging sector for 40 years and has a solid reputation and network in the industry. It is thanks to him that I began my own journey in the field. In 2014, my father and I started SG Packaging. We started small, but set ambitious growth objectives.

Our strong understanding of the market helped us identify its needs and develop a plan. Business was good. We manufactured cardboard packaging for clients in the food industry, as well as detergent.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we continued this work, but experienced new difficulties, such as raw material shortages and price increases. At the same time, demand for packaging material only grew due to a spike in online shopping. We took on the challenge: To continue our work and protect our customers, we decided to lower our margins. Since then, our team has expanded and we will soon open up a new factory with a higher production capacity.

During the health crisis, we were awarded a grant under the COVID-19 Enterprise Recovery Fund established by the US government under the USAID Tunisia JOBS program to build up our stock of raw material. This grant literally saved my business and the jobs of my colleagues."
