COVID-19 Response / Articles / 27-04-2022

"When I look back at my career, I am amazed that I have climbed all the way up the ladder.

I started off as just a welder, before eventually training to become a drafting technician. Today, I am a company manager. My experience has shown me that to succeed in this sector, you have to invest a lot, which dissuades many from joining the field. If I have any advice to youth, it would be to start small.

In 2013, I started the business and began working as a subcontractor for other metal industries clients. Little by little, my workshop and team began to grow. Over the years, we have always adapted and evolved, but we were forced to make larger adjustments during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to declining demand during the crisis, we had to downsize and rethink our expansion strategy. Anticipating that the cost of raw material would go up, I applied for the COVID-19 Enterprise Recovery Fund established by the US government through the USAID Tunisia JOBS program. The grant helped me build up my raw material stock and sell my products at a competitive price."
